Cookery Storage Chest - June 2010

After making two chest back in 2007 August, it was time to retire these chess as they do get bang up in transport and handling. Because of those previous chest falling apart when one looks at them, it was time to go to the drawing table and make two new ones. These chest shown above are the two new ones that were to replace the old chest, and are to be used to hold the household cookery equipment and supplies. There is also a table that is use to store these cabinets while in use (no photo of table). The table serves two purposes - to hide the mundane cooler underneath, and to hold the cookery storage chess at comfortable height. Trying different types of chess over a period of time I Christiana had settle on this design, as it is easy to load, and strong enough to stack and hold other chest and items on the truck. There was another one made later of the same design that is used to hold the materials for teaching at events. The finish obtained from research of the Renaissance era, which involved charring the wood, I did it with a torch called a hot head used in glass bead making, and than I used pigment and added it to a synthetic vanish.as these chest are exposed to the weather elements when at events.
